Beyond Destiny of Dallas on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Beyond Destiny and have shared our conversation below.

Beyond , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is I wake up and drink a glass of water and then workout. After my workout, I check my emails for any bookings/shows responses. Next, I check my band calendar to see if any new shows have been added to the calendar. I then shower and get ready to go to work. I am a Teacher/Coach at Frisco High School where I coach Girls Basketball and Track. After my work day, I go home to relax and have dinner, I then go to my band rehearsal from 7:30pm-11:00pm.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My grandmother, Dorothy Ann Heath-Walker was the most impactful relationship for me. My Grandmother (Granny) was the kind of person that showed unconditional love to everyone that came in contact with her. If you were hungry, she fed you, if you needed clothes, she gave you clothes. She was one of the most amazing people that you could ever meet. She was beautiful, funny and talented. I remember listening to so many great artists at her house. Artists like, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Betty White, Dolly Parton, The Judds. She was a God-fearing woman and raised me to always put God first, always believe in myself, work hard and to never give up on my dreams. She was my biggest fan!

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
When I was sad or scared as a child, talking to my Grandmother, praying and listening to music always helped. I also played a lot of sports growing up, so that really helped me connect with my teammates and coaches. They always made me feel better.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lies my industry tells itself is that you have to look a certain way, or sound a certain way to make it. That is not true. I believe that you have to be your authentic self, work hard, never give up and know that the opportunities will come for you to share your music, with the world. You need to keep grinding, keep working on your craft and find the joy in what you are doing.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would build a world where people are loved unconditionally. A world where we help people and build them up, instead of tearing them down. I have always believed that we are here to help each other do better, and be better. It would be a world where there is no hunger, no homelessness and all people have plenty. A world where people are truly free. We are all connected and I think that every culture has something amazing to offer.
