Hi Brandon, so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Brandon Humphrey. I’m a 31-year-old self-taught fine artist, husband, and father of three from Beaumont, Texas.
Why do you create abstract paintings?
Freedom of expression and challenging restrictions drive me. In society, many things make me feel restricted to be myself in all ways. When creating abstract paintings, I feel as if there are no barriers, no right or wrong, just genuine emotions. One of the best things about abstract art is the artist’s perspective gets translated through the art to the observer.
What do your paintings represent?
My paintings represent restriction-free emotions. I use my paintings to speak to the world. Though freedom of expression is encouraged in our society, I believe we all have felt some restrictions in many outlets. My paintings do not obey the restraints of others.
What inspires you?
My inspiration comes from wanting to help others on their journey. I’m inspired to inspire others to be their very best. I hope that my art displays grace and authenticity to my audience and encourages them to be their authentic selves.
Is there a connection between your process and your artwork’s message?
Yes. I use various techniques to create textures and patterns that help showcase my messages. Mixing colors on canvas with a specific speed and angle is a common technique in my paintings. I use that method to explore new ways to display messages.
What does your art mean to you?
My art is my way of communicating through the universal language; it is my voice. Art speaks. I am my art.
