Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Franklin.
Alexis, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Art has always been a part of my life. I’ve been drawing since I was three years old. My mother used to scrawl out impressive little doodles on our school supplies as children. Our binders and journals would be decked out with references to our favorite cartoons and movies, and I loved it so much. Some of my first drawings were derived from me trying to replicate what my mother did. So, from a very young age, drawing fascinated me. I would sit in my room and pause the TV while watching my shows, doodling whatever was on the screen, and I simply never lost my passion for it.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
People are very interesting to me, so I do a lot of portraits. I could sit in public and people watch for hours, because just the outward appearance of a person can tell such a story. My subjects cover a spectrum of variations, because I’ve always thought sticking to one kind of person was boring. There are so many uniquely beautiful people out there, and it is my favorite thing in the world to capture that.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I think it depends on what kind of artist you are. Personally, I’m not very “message” driven. What I paint is what I like. It’s all very personal, and if I do venture and paint something of cultural relevance, it almost always has something to do with pop culture. I feel that the role of an artist has always been subjective. If you are an artist that has always spoken out with what you do, you will continue to do so.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I don’t have a website. I’m primarily on Instagram, but you can pretty much find my work anywhere the public is allowed post art. ArtStation, Behance, Tumblr, places like this. I try to keep all of them updated, but Instagram is the quickest, so it has everything I’ve ever done, pretty much. All the way back to when I was sixteen. I suppose the best way to “support” my work would be to give me a follow!
