Check out Blake McDowell’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake McDowell.

Blake, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
California born and Texas raised. I’m an eighteen-year-old traveling artist living in a self-converted camper van. I moved into my van at early seventeen and started traveling the states after my eighteenth birthday. I’m currently working in Fredericksburg, Texas saving up for an extended trip throughout California and up into the northeast after that! I’ve always had an eye for art and expression, and fully realized the importance of it in my own life recently. I dedicate time out of every day to expanding my skills of the pen, in hopes of inspiring others to pursue their own passion.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I use a small assortment of supplies – a set of micron pens, two stencils, and a watercolor pen. Keep it simple. I enjoy the challenge of capturing big ideas and experiences in simple black and white pieces. My art is constantly evolving on a daily basis along with myself, as of recently my pieces have been very spiritually themed with a landscape-esque style to them. The inspiration for these come from my belief that we are all on a spiritual journey through life. I use visuals from my dreams and places that I’ve been on my travels, as well as my own personal experiences on any level. For me, it’s a way of expressing my brain onto paper in a way others can enjoy. I stay dedicated in hopes that others may find inspiration in my journey not only throughout life but in my journey of expanding my skills of the pen!

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
KEEP. AT. IT. If I had kept up my practice from the time I was eleven or twelve, who knows where my skills would be right now! It’s all in practice and in dedication to what you love as with anything in life.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I use Instagram to post and promote photos of my work. I believe it’s a great place to share and gather inspiration with other creatives.
