Check out Caitlin Brax’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Brax.

Caitlin, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My love for vintage fashion began as a child, instilled in me by my mother and now business partner. I worked in Los Angeles as a manager and buyer for a popular boutique before moving back to my home state of Texas and opening our boutique, Alex & Afton Vintedge. We specialize in vintage denim, all things 1970s, and carry our own line of handmade clothing. I work freelance as a wardrobe stylist and really enjoy the creative direction behind photo shoots.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We sew garments made from vintage textiles using vintage patterns. Our clothing ranges from bell bottoms to caftans to kimonos and festival tops. Each piece is lovingly made with the free spirit im mind. Our items have been shipped all over the world, and we are so thankful for the opportunity to bring smiles to our client’s faces. We aim to please when we create pieces with specific clients in mind, and we strive to outfit a variety of shapes and sizes. Our message is about empowering our client to feel their best and embrace their uniqueness.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
We have learned every lesson the hard way as female small business owners! My advice to anyone looking to start a retail company would be: Know thyself! Commit to your vision, your aesthetic- do not change your ideas based on a flimsy trend or negative feedback from others who may not understand your vision. Also, I cannot stress the importance of providing excellent customer service. We strive to know all of our clients by name and greet them lovingly every time we see them.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
We own a brick and mortar location in Tyler, TX. In addition to serving our community, we take our show on the road to the Dallas area monthly where we pop up at various markets. We ship via our website and our Instagram feed.
