Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Hays.
Donna, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
With a God-given passion for art growing up, adapting to tragedies early in life I drew everything I could, self-teaching along the way, taking only a couple drawing classes with no other formal education. It’s not easy to be self-taught, fighting yourself not even knowing the basics, but with passion comes creations. I always strive to perfect my craft to the highest level I can…you can safely say I am from the school of hard knocks!
Being raised in the West, I was exposed to some breathtaking scenery and diverse areas to paint. Creating art in various forms throughout my life, yet not until recently have they found their way to be expressed onto canvas. Moving a few times in the recent past has given me more diverse subjects and beauty…and when I experience such beauty, I feel driven to capture it with paint.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Seeing a vast array of beauty/images everywhere I feel led to create so many of them on canvas. Having to “feel” a subject to paint it, I’m a diverse painter not driven to paint one subject and tire easily with one style.
It seems I am a natural with portraits as they come fairly easily to me and a rewarding feeling to bring a portrait to life on canvas for someone to behold forever, especially one they have lost in life.
Unless it’s a commission piece, you’ll never know what I’ll be painting next. I have too many ideas swirling in my head waiting for the right time to put them down with paint.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Even with all the social media getting your work noticed is the biggest challenge for any artist. As our population keeps growing there are more artists than ever, and with more mediums being developed an artist is up against a lot just to be seen.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Currently I am in New Braunfels Art League in NB, Texas and my website is donnahaysart.com
