Check out Jasmin Reynoso’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Reynoso.

Jasmin, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I come from a family of creatives, so I was bound to be a creative myself. Growing up I would daydream about having an art studio. I would imagine big beautiful windows and a window bench, so I could work on my poetry and sketches of wedding gowns. I always dreamt of living a creative lifestyle.

In high school, I began to study cosmetology and went on in college where I graduated from Beauty School. At the age of 19 I had my firstborn, and at 20 I had my second. So working as a hairdresser was put on hold. In that time period, I realized that I no longer wanted to be in the hair industry. I wanted to be able to work from home while being a wife and mother of two. I began my creative business this last May; it’s been an amazing journey so far. I can’t wait to see where this year takes me.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a furniture artist. I started painting furniture almost three years ago when I was expecting my second born. I was just painting for myself and my family. Shortly afterward I had family friends wanting me to do custom work. I quickly realized after painting multiple pieces that I could make this into a small business. Once I had gained enough experience and confidence, I decided to put my work on social media platforms. From there I was getting requests for custom work constantly.

I love to play around and be creative with different paint finish techniques. Every piece that I have painted is always different from the one before. I’m in the experimenting stage of my business, so I’m trying to find what works best for me and my style.

I want to inspire others that old and boring furniture doesn’t have to go to the dumpster. The best pieces are the ones that have the bangs and chippy wood. They tell a story of their journey; all it needs is some TLC to bring an old piece back to life.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
The biggest challenge for me personally is getting people to buy my unique furniture and canvas pieces for the price I’m asking. Big stores carry artwork for cheaper prices compared to original work which makes it extremely hard on us. I don’t think people really understand all the hard work that is put into creating our art. I have to go find my furniture pieces, do the prep work before I can even begin to start painting. It’s not only painting a piece, but it is also staging a piece. There is a lot more to it than just slapping on some paint.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I sell my work at a local vintage shop. You can swing by Vintage Deluxe in Odessa, TX. They are open every single day of the week. Monday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

I have my website that you can also purchase my work from. Be sure to subscribe to my mailing list to be alerted about new products on the floor. You can also support my small business by liking and following me on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.
