Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenni Johnson.
Jenni, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I do believe in chasing joy, chasing freedom and chasing Jesus. I am giving my life to see us spend our time here beautifully. As an artist, I love telling stories. I love knowing people. In fact, I think stories and people have the capacity to change the world. I have been a visual story teller my entire life. From performing to painting to drawing to eventually capturing images through a lens; being an artist runs through my veins.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a huge advocate for emotion and realism. Though I do not prefer to label my work, if I had to use a particular word to describe it I believe I would use the word authentic. I like to tell stories through my photographs and films, and I prefer those stories to be honest. One of my biggest inspirations in my story telling is playwright Tennessee Williams. I began reading his plays at a young age, and something about the intricacy of his words and the way he painted a person and their relationships just sparked something in my mind. It was as if I felt what the person was feeling in that exact moment; which is what I aim to do in my work.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I do not believe the role of artists has changed. I believe artists have always had the greatest responsibility of most any profession; to tell the truth, to share their stories and the stories of others- even when they aren’t pretty.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is displayed in several public domains; a few of my films are displayed both online and through various film festivals. My photography and videography can be found on my website jennijohnsonproductions.com
