Check out Josh Hall’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Hall.

Josh, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in Saudi Arabia on a mostly American compound. Being overseas we did a lot of traveling, which resulted in going to lots of museums. A solid appreciation and love for art was cultivated in me at a fairly early age. At the same time, we were seeing people from all cultures and walks of life. Some of those people had tattoos and I thought they were cool! Around the time I was about age 8 or 9 I started hand poking rudimentary little designs on myself and my friends. As I got older my love for tattoos grew but the doors to tattooing are not easily opened so I pursued other avenues of stable income. I spent several years as a paramedic and worked my way through paramedic school doing piercings. Eventually, after a lot of time and hard work, I was offered an apprenticeship to tattoo. Move forward about 20 years of trials, tribulation and even harder work and we arrive at J. Hall & Co. Gentleman Tattooers.

I opened the shop a little over 5 years ago and it is the best of me. I am truly fortunate to get to come to my own place and do what I love everyday surrounded by talented artists. All of us working together to bring our customers the best tattoo and tattoo experience we can.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I basically draw pictures on people for a living. I have been fortunate to find enough people that like what I do to make a living at it. I have dabbled in a lot of styles over the years but find that I am most drawn to classic American traditional tattoos as they seem to do the best in the long run. I draw a lot of inspiration from the old timers that made tattooing what it is today. The clean, bold designs that were being put out in the early 1900’s are just super cool. Not to mention they are still relevant and hold up standing the test time. I’m also pretty partial to Eastern styles as they too tend to age well. I guess it’s fair to say I like tattoos that last.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Each piece brings its own success when finished but the greatest satisfaction comes from giving someone an indelible mark as bright and bold as the statement they are trying to make. Ultimately a happy client is the key to success in tattooing.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
