Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Harrell.
Kimberly, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Even though I have had a love for photography for as long as I can remember, I didn’t even consider being a photographer until my son was born in 2012. I got behind my first DSLR lens to capture beautiful photos to share with friends and family. It was in that first year of capturing pictures of my son that I knew that this was more than just a hobby for me…that it was something that truly brought me happiness.
I invested in education and practiced on anyone who would let me!
I did portraits for about six years until I switched my focus to weddings and couples — and I haven’t looked back. It is such a joy to get to capture two people on one of the most important days of their life. I love being a part of this season in their life as they embark on the wonderful journey of marriage!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a wedding photographer in the Dallas/ Fort Worth Metroplex. I love wedding photography because I believe in marriage. I love being a part of this special season in my couple’s life. I want their wedding pictures to be bright and joyful and remind them of how happy they were on that day and why they choose to get married…and let’s face it, sometimes in marriage…you might need a little reminding occasionally!
The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
I don’t spend more on my business than what I make. It is so easy to want ALL the things…so I really prioritize what my needs are for my business and then budget for them.
