Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Sanchez.
Mike, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born in Dallas Tx., Raised in Frisco. Music was always around. My grandparents, my uncles, my Mom and her sisters all sang songs in the back yard during the holidays, and I was like a sponge just soaking it all up. I found out later in life that my dad’s side of the family played music and sang too. I started playing guitar at ten years old with my big brother Jesse Sanchez. He showed me the Blues, and Rock and Roll, on the guitar, bass, and drums. Even to this day he and my mom are my biggest influences, My first band was in Jr high. We played all through high school. The guitar has been a good thing for me. I have played in New Orleans on Bourbon street during Mardi Gras, in Memphis at BB Kings Blues Club on Beal street, Played show’s and opened for Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Pat Travers, Fog Hat, Pantera, Bugs Henderson, John Nitzinger, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Rusy Weir, Gary Hobbs, Grupo Mazz, RD Foster.
Working on a record right now for RD Foster and the Red River Surfers… I have played guitar for many bands over the years, The Rough Riders, Rivers Edge, Penny Gilley, Grupo Carino, Valenzia, Loose Gravel, FM 720, My current band is called Iron Horse Express, we play a little bit of everything, Country, Blues, Rock, Tex/Mex, Oldies.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
(Music is Art, Art is Life) is what my Art teacher had on her wall in school… I just play guitar, book gigs, write songs every so often. Just your local guitar slinger, a lot older now…
How can artists connect with other artists?
Just get out there and start meeting people. Introduce yourself, shake some hands, pass out your band cards to anyone interested.
