Check out N’Dambi’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to N’Dambi.

N’Dambi, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Well, I am a church girl (preacher’s kid) from the South side of Oak Cliff. My parents started me out with music…. church choir, piano lessons, band. I was always fascinated with words and putting them together my whole life. However, it doesn’t hurt to know that my mom exposed me to libraries as a priceless past time to learn, dream and discover. I always loved music and even in my shyness, I dreamed of traveling the world, singing…even when I really didn’t know how my closed mouth would get me there. I would eventually go on to college at SMU, study creative writing, graduate and meet Erykah Badu while I was trying to find my creative self. There started a friendship and before I knew, I was traveling the world singing background for her. It was a beautiful, enriching experience that grew me to want to make an album. A couple of years later I release my first project, Little Lost Girls Blues and I have been an artist ever since.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art? I like to fancy that I am a storyteller. I usually watch people live and write about what I see. People often ask if what I write is personal. I suppose there is always a little of me in it but maybe, I write like how I love reading books…. just a narrator observing. My voice usually carries the melodies in a contralto that I had to grow into as an adult. Usually, my message is to inspire others to be, do, act and/or create. I love making music that evokes people to feel. I hope that one can take away something meaningful that can be applied to their life from the artwork I do. Everyone should know that anything I do comes from a well-meaning place of love and good intentions

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I think artists have the same responsibilities they always have had and that is to imitate life. I am unsure that our roles change much. I think we are always a reflection of the life and times of the many people who inhabit the planet locally, nationally or globally. We do our best job to give a voice to the ideas people feel or need to express at any given time they exist. On a basic level, all people are affected by the basic need to provide food, clothing and shelter for themselves and their families. Anything standing in the way of us being able to meet our needs affect us all.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can hear and/or see my work on Spotify, iTunes, Apple, Tidal YouTube, Amazon, etc. as well as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. at @NDambi and my website NDambionline.com. My solo projects include Little Lost Girls Blues, Tunin’ Up & CoSignin’, A Weird Kina Wonderful and my Grammy nominated project Pink Elephant. I also have a new Collab ep project out with Atlanta-based All Cows Eat Grass front-man T. Brown called Air Castle. I encourage everyone to support by buying the music and telling someone else about it. Come to a show, buy the music/merchandise and gift it to someone else. I still believe in the power of the word of mouth.
