Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Harris.
Hi Nikki, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have loved photography for as long as I can remember. I seem to be the one always taking pictures of everyone and everything. I started taking it more seriously after the birth of my oldest daughter, who is about to be six now. She loved to be mom’s model so I got alot of practice. Then I started taking pictures of friends and family and the feeling of them loving the pictures I took is what made me take it to the next level. I finally decided I was ready to open my business in July of 2019 and have not looked back since.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Photography can definitely be a saturated market which makes it hard. When I first started, I felt like some days I was begging people to let me take their photos, which can be a struggle on your confidence. Or there would be times – I would spend more on my props than I would make from all the sessions I scheduled on the setup. I am just so thankful that I have had such supportive family and friends who have helped me grow through those times.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love meeting new people, getting to know them and capturing their precious memories. Getting them to relax and give me genuine smiles is my favorite part of the job. I would say I specialize in working with kids – Their parents usually tell me how comfortable they were with me (which is probably why I have a lot of repeat business). Recently I am falling in love with maternity sessions – Capturing those moments and making it an experience are so special so I am currently trying to grow that area.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
That while growing my photography business, I am also a mother of two and still have a full-time day job as an insurance agent.
