Today we’d like to introduce you to Alondra Sanchez
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began working at the age of six, assisting my mom with housekeeping. Every summer, she would take me along to help her out. One of her clients owned a salon, which inspired me to pursue cosmetology in high school and apprentice there while I explored my interests in college. Unexpectedly, I fell in love with hair coloring and the fashion industry. My mentor, a L’Oréal Professionnel educator, greatly influenced my career path, and I am thrilled to have recently been hired as one myself. I also had the opportunity to work in Beverly Hills for a short period before returning back to my family
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s definitely been some struggles I’ve overcome in the past 8 years being in the industry. I’m left handed, so I would get frustrated trying to learn haircuts in cosmetology school. I planned on quitting halfway through the program, but thankfully my mother and sister were persistent that I finish because they saw my potential. There’s also a struggle in building a clientele, when you are behind the chair. I’ve learned to embrace constructive feedback from others and use it to improve, rather than viewing it negatively and not taking it personal .
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an advanced balayage artist, I’m known for creating lived-in looks that last long, and wear well. I’m most proud of making people smile and feeling confident in themselves. I not only believe in constantly improving my skills, but that hair is art. No canvas is ever the same and no artist is the same. I take into account my clients lifestyle and maintenance, so I know how to best approach their hair.
What are your plans for the future?
I am excited for my training with L’Oréal Professionel in two weeks. There’s so much change going on in my personal and professional life and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunities coming my way.
