Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Orchard.

Amy Orchard

Hi Amy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Several years ago, circumstances and events made me realize I needed and wanted a creative outlet that would also help me make a living. I was getting ready to turn 50, my husband had a health scare, and we would be empty nesters soon. So, I started my photography journey. I had always taken pictures but knew there was more than just aim and shoot in order to call myself professional. During the beginning of learning my craft, I found a wonderful mentor that helped me grow not only as a professional photographer but also as a person. This led to my passion of helping other women grown themselves as well as see themselves as they are going through their journey of self-discovery. As we grow older, we tend to become more invisible. Our roles are changing, and we don’t always know where we fit in. I love being a part of that journey of helping women find their beauty and strength as they age and as they find their place in life again.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life doesn’t have smooth roads. If it does, then we are doing it wrong. How we deal with those struggles help us grow and learn. Many of the struggles I have is the same that most business owners have. Self-value is a huge struggle. We have to believe in ourselves in order to believe in our business, what we offer, and how we price it.

Another struggle is marketing and promotion of the business. Getting out there and letting people know what I do and how I can help them and their business.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a boutique portrait photographer. I specialize in women over 40. I enlighten them about their beauty and strength through images, branding, and speaking. I create a portrait experience that is customized just for them, that makes them feel pretty, confident, and seen.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
With the advancements in AI, photographers really need to focus on the experience and customer service of their business. People like the hands-on approach, and they want to connect with a person. AI helps us with streamlining aspects of our work so we can do what we love and take care of our clients.
