Today we’d like to introduce you to Analise Rocha.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story starts when I was about 17 when me and my best friend bought one time pierce your ear kits randomly on a dare for each other. I pierced her cartilage with it and had one of those when you know, you know moments. From there, the world of piercings took off for me. I soon turned 18 after that and began getting piercings left and right familiarizing myself with the industry and searching for an apprenticeship. After many “no’s” and getting turned away I finally found one at a small shop in Grand Prairie where I was able to really get my foot in the door and start growing my already extensive knowledge on piercings. After learning as much as I could it was time for me to look for a new shop due to unforeseen circumstances which led me to where I am now , The Black Rose Studio. Which for me as a baby piercer was a whole new world and extremely clean slate. The shop had already been open for years but never had a piercer and I struck gold finding the shop just before they put out they were looking to hire a piercer. Through the past 3 years I have really been able to grow without restrictions and build the piercing side of the shop to what it is today. From having only basic jewelry in studio to now carrying over 12 different brands of jewelry and aftercare growing more and more each year with some you can’t find in any other shops near us. I take great pride in my job as it has taken me many many tears and late nights and missing on quality time with people I love. But , this isn’t where I stop , I have large goals and aspirations of being mansfields first APP verified studio which I’m hoping to achieve in the next few years.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming a piercer has definitely not been an easy road. Finding an apprenticeship was definitely the biggest struggle as most shops didnt want somebody so young with no industry experience as well many piercers aren’t looking to have an apprentice. Truthfully I had an easy apprenticeship once I found one and was able to accomplish personal goals of moving out solo fairly quickly due to this. However things really took a turn for me once I switched studio as the black rose being open for many years and telling clients all that time they didn’t do piercings. When I started there slow season in the industry was rolling in and I was struggling to switch from such a high traffic studio to a ghost town honestly. I would be lucky if I got one client a week and not having a selection of jewelry really took its toll. I was juggling a second job working that full time plus being at the studio full time working 16+ hour days for a little under a year was no joke. Although through perseverance , a lot of manifestation and elbow grease I started growing my clientele slowly into what it is today which led me to be able to quit my other job and solely provide for myself doing what I love.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a piercer we all find our niche and specialty along the way. At this stage in my career I feel I specialize primarily in gold jewelry and curating a unique experience for clients. I’m most proud of the environment I provide for each client based on what they need. For me piercings are more then just a fun impulsive decision , they’re a therapy session , a moment to reclaim yourself , an enhancements to your appearance to bring out your true self or a cultural / gender affirming session.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The piercing / tattoo industry is always evolving and ever changing. For piercing currently I feel petite and clean girl aesthetic looks are very in right now. I would love to see more color whether it be stones or metals in peoples piercings as well as large chunky fun pieces. With the age of the internet at an all time high right now a lot of misinformation is being spread regarding piercings and their aftercare. I hope with time and proper education more people will feel comfortable coming into shops and speaking with an educated piercer. As per where I see myself ? Hopefully being apart of the APP and being an ambassador for a few big name brands. Jewelry making has also been peaking my curiosity lately so that may be another avenue I hope to explore. Regardless the sky’s the limit and I’m excited to see where things go.
