Check Out April Cook’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Cook

Hi April, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Years ago my husband and I tried to purchase a home. At first we qualified for a FHA loan in which my realtor and lender advised this was the best loan to have. When we were close to closing our loan status changed to Conventional, in which we were told was better than FHA. Being who I am I began to ask questions, I mean this is one of the most important decisions you will make in life and we were about to sign a 30 year loan. When I began to ask questions, I felt rushed, I felt their attention and attitudes changed as if I shouldn’t ask. Needless to say I did not sign off on that loan. I spoke with my husband (he’s my biggest supporter) I said baby I want to go to real estate school to educate myself, so that I can educate my people…. And that’s exactly what I did. Everything comes with a promise or price right. I promised God if he gave me the tools to be successful I would be consistent, I wouldn’t quit like I would do when things didn’t move as fast as I wish. Boy did he make me hold up
To that promise, I didn’t sell my first home until my second year in real estate, but god made it easy. My client came with a 820 credit score and 125k down payment. Because of my belief and consistency I DID IT!! I want to encourage others not just Realtors that if you keep God first , believe in yourself, have a little discipline, and stay consistent, There is no limit to the things you can achieve. Be intentional about who you surround yourself with and always bet on YOU.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My struggle along the way was being a serial entrepreneur before becoming a realtor. I’m so use to getting money, waiting on a commission was a challenge. I watched the other agents close deals, and be successful while I sold nothing for 2 years, but I still clapped, I still cheered. I just knew my time would come and if I stayed the course I would have a testimony.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
April Cook is a Realtor in the state of Texas. I help people become home owners and build generational wealth by educating and advocating for them every step of the way. I differ from other realtors because I meet my clients where they are. Most Realtors won’t touch a lease clients, or even talk to them for that matter. I assist with lease clients and buyers. I connect my clients with my preferred credit specialist if they are not quite ready to buy, so we can get ready. Most importantly I’m a relationship realtor I’m all for building relationships in this industry. You have more of an experience with April instead of a transaction.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Absolutely, Covid made everyone lazy, wanting to stay home and behind a computer. You can’t build relationships this way. This is one reason I feel my first couple of years was hard. You have to get out, get in the field, meet people. You have to get up, get dressed, and get from behind that computer.
