Check Out Ashley Luck’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Luck.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It’s hard for me to separate growing up and my story because for as long as I can remember I have loved kids and wanted to be in the medical field taking care of people. It was a natural marriage for me to combine my love of kids with desire to be in the medical field, but I didn’t automatically follow the path in school to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. I actually always dreamed of being a pediatrician and thus went to Baylor University as a Business Honors major to learn some business basics, so I could ultimately open my own practice. However, childhood dreams gave way to adult reality and I realized that becoming a nurse would probably be more conducive to becoming a mom and having children of my own. Because of this, I pivoted and decided to graduate from Baylor with my Bachelors of Business Administration in 3 years and then applied to the fast-track nursing program at Baylor Nursing School in Dallas, TX. I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing one year later and went to work at Baylor Downtown in Dallas as a postpartum nurse specializing in nursery care for newborns. I loved this work so much that it made me realize I didn’t want my journey to end with kids 2-3 days after their birth; I wanted to be involved in their care and support their parents in their growth throughout their childhood. This reignited passion in me led me to apply to NP school at University of Texas at Arlington. I worked full-time as a postpartum nurse at Baylor while putting myself through NP school. Ultimately, this has led me to my work here at Mom’s Choice and I feel as though I have hit that sweet spot where my passion marries with what I’m good at. I absolutely LOVE working with kids, I love partnering with parents, and I love being the one parents call when they don’t know where to turn for questions on their kids’ health.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’d have to say one of the biggest obstacles that I’ve dealt with in my life was working in one of the biggest hospitals in Dallas in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic while in my final year of nurse practitioner school. This made my whole clinical experience even more challenging than it already was. At work, I was being asked to work in areas I wasn’t accustomed to taking care of COVID patients and at clinical, I was not only having to learn the pediatric basics but also navigate a pandemic. However, there is always a silver lining in every experience because, as COVID changed many industries it also changed healthcare, which has led to a demand for telehealthcare and at-home visits. Mom’s Choice has really been at the forefront of mobile healthcare and I am so excited to be part of it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a pediatric nurse practitioner here in the Dallas area and I absolutely love what I do. Mom’s Choice is a mobile medical service that is accessible to all because we work with all major insurance carriers. We do not function like the traditional concierge medical model. With this business approach, we are able to reach more families and provide quality care in Dallas and the surrounding communities. I love that I get to meet families where they are at because it removes stress for both the parents and the kids I serve. The parents don’t have to load their kids up and sit in a waiting room full of other sick kids and it allows the kids to be treated in a space they are comfortable in, ultimately making the experience more enjoyable to for the entire family.
