Check Out Atefeh Raouf’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Atefeh Raouf.

Hi Atefeh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The most significant turning point in my artistic journey occurred when I won first place in a calligraphy competition at the age of nine. That early recognition helped me understand not only my talent but also my deep passion for the arts. From that moment, I continued exploring a wide range of creative disciplines, including painting, photography, interior design, floral design, and musical performance. Over the years, I earned a total of 24 art certificates, each one reinforcing my commitment to creative expression.

As I grew, friends and family frequently asked me to design their homes, style their events, or contribute artistic elements to their special occasions. Their consistent encouragement and positive feedback gave me the confidence to transform my passion into a professional path.

After moving to the United States, I decided to formalize my work and establish my own business. I founded Irisa Design to build a full-time career centered around what I love most creating meaningful, beautiful, and memorable artistic experiences for others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has certainly not been a smooth road. When I first started my business, I was also a full‑time student, which made balancing my time and responsibilities extremely challenging. On top of that, I was navigating an entirely new environment, new country, new culture, new language, and new systems. Unlike many people who begin their professional journey with strong networks and established support, I had to build everything from the ground up.
Despite these challenges, my passion for art and my vision for the future kept me moving forward. Every obstacle became an opportunity to learn, adapt, and grow.
I truly believe that when you are dedicated to your craft and clear about your goals, you can rise above difficulties and continue on your path with determination.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
During the week, I’m an engineer, and on the weekends, I step into my favorite role as an event planner and lead designer.
I love having the best of both worlds! My engineering background gives me structure and problem‑solving skills, while my design work lets me express my creativity and connect with people during the happiest moments of their lives.

Irisa Design is based in Dallas, TX, and we’re proud to serve clients throughout Texas and even beyond. We specialize in wedding and event planning, custom event design, décor rentals, calligraphy, and more. Whether it’s a small intimate gathering or a big celebration, my goal is always the same: to make every event feel beautiful, personal, and unforgettable.

I’m most proud of how far Irisa Design has come. What started as a passion project has grown into a brand that people trust with their most special days. The greatest compliment is when clients tell me they felt truly cared for and understood that means everything to me.

What sets Irisa Design apart is the personal touch we bring to every project. I take the time to really listen and understand my clients’ vision, and I combine my artistic background with my engineering mindset to bring their ideas to life with creativity and precision. I pour my heart into every detail, and I think people can feel that.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Social media has become an amazing tool for networking and finding mentors. Platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok make it so much easier to connect with people in your industry, follow their journeys, and learn from their experiences. Sharing your work online also helps others discover you and your business.

Another approach that has worked well for me is attending local events, workshops, and business gatherings. Simply introducing yourself, talking about your work, and showing genuine interest in others goes a long way. You never know who you will meet or what opportunities may come from a simple conversation.

My advice is to put yourself out there even if it feels uncomfortable at first. Be open, be friendly, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. People love to share their knowledge and help someone who is passionate and eager to grow. Over time, you naturally build relationships with people who inspire you, guide you, and become part of your support system.
