Today we’d like to introduce you to Bayleigh Cheek.
Bayleigh, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Music has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I started playing guitar when I was thirteen because I wanted to start writing songs. I spent many years learning to play and write. By the time I was in college, I had decided to major in sculpture and stepped away from music for a few years. Realizing something major was missing, I dropped out of school and decided to pursue music full-time in 2016. Since then, I have a band I’ve been collaborating with as well as released an EP that was nominated by the DOMA for best EP and new artist, and am currently writing my first full-length album.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely in no way has it been a smooth road. I have had many obstacles, to the point, it’s driven me to almost give up on multiple occasions. With that being said, I can’t imagine my life without music and when everything is said and done, music is the thing that keeps me going, and I can never give up on that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been playing music full-time for almost six years now. Of all things, I am a storyteller. I am working at the moment on a series of concept albums that go together. I like to create worlds and atmospheres and mix surrealism with realism.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am a huge movie nerd. It is a goal of mine to create films one day, hopefully sooner than later.
