Check Out Britt Whatley’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Whatley.

Hi Britt, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Growing up in a town of a 1,000 people, I quickly realized that it prepared me for so much, including how to care and love for others. At a young age, I discovered the gifts that I had been given and chose to focus on them, beginning at the age of 15. Over the next 16 years, I would graduate cosmetology school, move to Dallas, and run my own business.

When I first began my journey in Dallas, Drybar was my first job, and it gave me the understanding that I could specialize in what I wanted, styles.

After being there for a few years, I was recruited by a company in Plano that offered hair and makeup services in; which they created a Coordinator position for me where I was able to see the business side of the interactions and transactions and found my niche.

I was meant to be a business owner, I knew it my heart to create an experience like no other for my brides that offered quality services and service providers, and so The Wildlife Wedding began.

Finally, after 16 years of hard work and dedication, 10 being licensed and pursuing it as a career, I just wrapped up NYFW.

It’s been an amazing ride, and I am thankful for all I’ve encountered along the way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think any road is always smooth, especially if you live in a state that always seems to be under construction. Which I think is a great representation of my journey. I don’t think the job is ever done. Education is continuous, and the industry is ever-changing.

I think being from such a small town, I had people doubt the legitimacy of the career I chose, and moving to Dallas didn’t make that easier at first. I had some people who didn’t seem to think I would make it here either. For those people, I am just as grateful as I am the ones who did and continue to do so.

Along the road, I faced the part of being young in what could be a hard industry to make a name in, but I chose to continue to network and work for free just to get in the room with those I looked up to or wanted to work with. So, I did; I spent money I didn’t have and worked long hours after holding down a full-time job just to breathe the same air.

What a journey and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hair and makeup artist that specializes in services for weddings/events and now runway.

Besides the services I provide, I am known for quick response time, caring for my clients who become so much more, and being very detailed oriented.

I’m most proud of the people I work with whether that’s other artists or vendors and, of course, my clients. I’d like to think they all have made me who I am and now where I am.

As far as what sets me apart, I think it’s the same for everyone. I am what sets me apart; there is something about everyone that others seek out because they connect with it. I connect with my people because they were my people before I even knew.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was most definitely a rambunctious kid. Very creative and center of attention for sure. A little quirky and couldn’t sit still for long. I think that’s true to date as well.

That kid growing up wouldn’t believe where I am but definitely dreamed it. Always dressing up and performing, I knew I was called to be around others to love them, and pour into them. Who knew, years later I’d find what that would look like for the rest of my life.
