Check Out Brittany Symone’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Symone.

Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Brittany Symone aka Symone Protective Styles. I am originally from Shreveport, Louisiana. I have been doing protective styles since 2014. I am a mother of two boys and a wife. I always had clients back home in Shreveport, but Shreveport is nowhere the size of Dallas, lol. We moved here due to my husband’s job transferring him. I was very nervous and scared when he asked was I ready to move to Dallas. I told him no, I was not ready because I did not have any clients and didn’t really know anyone in the DFW area. When I first moved here, my social media symoneprotectivestyles was still building, and at the time, I had a little over 2k followers. I started posting my clients from my hometown but putting Dallas hashtags under my post so that hopefully someone would see and book an appointment. Some girls I went to high school with who lives here in Dallas ended up seeing me move here and booked and then told their friends and it went from there.

At the time, I was just doing boho goddess locs. I eventually had a client fly in from Little Rock to come to see me, and she wanted to try something different she asked, instead of getting the regular goddess locs, could I do the bob locs? I said of course, let’s do it. That was one of my first posts that went viral in Dallas, and everyone loved it. Shortly after that, I created chunkier textured bob locs and I named them after my mom (Starla Bob Locs) that went viral as well. I forgot to mention I had only been living in Dallas for about four months at this time. A few months after that, business was great! Then the pandemic hit. It kind of put a toll on me at first, but I didn’t let it stop me. So I ended up doing an online zoom webinar where I taught a total of 84 students how to do the Starla Bob Locs. It turned out really great. After everything, I just continued to build my brand, make videos, help another protective style stylist online on how to properly take care of clients’ hair while having a protective style, and now I’m here! Dallas definitely has so many opportunities. I always say to myself never give up. Trust God. Manifest anything you want and it shall come to you.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a pretty smooth transition for me from Shreveport to Dallas surprisingly. Other than the pandemic happening!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Protective Style Stylist. I am known for the Starla Bob Locs! I am proud that I was able to create a style that now women and men are wearing all over the world!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First, God because without him, nothing is possible, secondly my husband, he has always been my number one supporter. Even when I wanted to give up, he motivated me to keep pushing. My family has always rooted me on. I will like to give credit to all my models and clients and friends who supported me as well.
