Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Rains.
Hi Caleb, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got my start playing music in Dallas back in 2009 with some friends I met in college at DBU. That was my first real exposure to the industry and I gained valuable insight into Dallas music culture, how to conduct myself in the space, and how to balance the joy of playing with my friends versus the grind of doing business. I spent more than a decade supporting other artists on their backline and building my network (which I still love doing) but never had the courage to take a chance on myself until 2025 when I got serious about writing my own music. The Caleb Rains Band is the result of all those years of hard work developing the craft, and the incredible people I’ve been fortunate enough to work with along the way. Dallas music is the very definition of community, and I wouldn’t be who I am without the support of all those other musicians in the city.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is never a straight line. It’s been a struggle, but the lows never outweigh the highs. There’s never enough time or money to convince myself I’m making progress. I’ve learned to quiet that part of my mind so I can focus on doing the next right thing. I’m a firm believer that hard work will eventually pay off, but almost never in the way you expect. It’s so important to celebrate the little victories along the way or this business will chew you to pieces.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make Red Dirt Soul music. Think southern rock with soul, blues, country and funk all simmered down in a big pot. My sound has been shaped from my biggest influences like Marcus King, Leon Bridges, Cory Wong, The Allman Brothers Band, Freddie King, and Albert Collins. My sound is nostalgic and familiar with my own perspective laid over infectious grooves, uplifting melodies, and a rowdy, rockin band. What sets me apart is the space in between genres. I can comfortably share a bill with artists from the soul, RnB, country, rock, pop, Americana and funk space and sound like I’m right where I belong. There’s definitely a healthy amount of Red Dirt attitude to my sound, but fans of all those genres will find something in my songs to appreciate.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
The band has been hard at work preparing for studio time! Expect my debut single to release in 2026 with more music to follow shortly after. Come out and see us at a show to find out what’s coming, you won’t regret it!
