Check Out Chandler Ortiz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandler Ortiz.

Hi Chandler, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always knew I wanted to be in aesthetics or dermatology. I became a registered nurse in 2018 and worked in the ER for about a year. Throughout that year, I applied to multiple aesthetic offices, med spas, and plastic surgery facilities. I started with LaserAway in June of 2019 working as a clinician. I was over the moon and grateful for an opportunity to get my foot in the door to aesthetics. As the nation’s leading aesthetic dermatology group, LaserAway is proudly led by 20+ board-certified dermatologists. At the clinical level, we have nurse practitioners, physicians’ assistants, and registered nurses. LaserAway trains their nurses in-house with a combination of detailed virtual didactic training followed by hands-on in clinic training. I worked as a clinician for 2 years, working in both our North TX and South TX clinics. In July of 2021, our regional clinical director was promoted, and the regional clinical director position opened up for North TX. I applied and was promoted in September 2021. I am proud to say I am one of 20 regional clinical directors across the nation. My region is known as the Heartland region and consists of 5 clinics across DFW and OKC. Our clinics are in Fort Worth, Dallas, Southlake, Frisco, and Oklahoma City. We are opening our 6th clinic in April 2023, which will be Arlington, TX, which will be our #115 clinic opened across the nation! We currently have 109 clinics, and we are just getting started! I love interviewing nurses interested in aesthetic dermatology and giving them the opportunity to explore a new field. I enjoy training new nurses, promoting nurses, and watching them grow and move into further leadership positions. People are my passion, and I love helping others feel like the best version of themselves. I always joke we are nursing self-esteem, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I couldn’t have done any of this without the support of family and my wonderful husband Hunter. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, my chocolate lab, and traveling!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. There have been many learning curves and challenges in the position. Management can be tough, but luckily, I have an incredible team of support to lean on. Seasoned regionals often mention you won’t feel confident in the role until after a year at least. Understanding seasons of business, merging and navigating different personalities, and retaining a cohesive team. This last year I have focused more on the little details and maintaining a positive and exciting workplace! I have a lead clinician in each clinic, and they are my right hands! Typically conducting trainings and working as a liaison between the clinic and the regional clinical director. We have a great team and look forward to coming to work and working with one another!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think what sets me apart is my ability to read employees/situations and deliver feedback or praise based on that. I believe it’s important to move with positive intentions, see the big picture, and always do what is best for your team. I genuinely care about my employees and want to know how I can push and lead them to be their best. We are fortunate to have a great team!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I loved being active! I played every sport and loved being a part of a team. I’ve always had a natural desire to lead others. I was very silly and playful, and my parents have many home videos of me putting on a show, dancing, singing, and doing gymnastics. In grade school, I was voted to represent my class for student council and ran for and received many class positions throughout my school years. In 6th grade, I put together a mock talent show skit of American Idol consisting of about 10 of our friends. There were countless times I put together skits and games with my friends. I loved being outside, doing puzzles, and often did crosswords and other mind-stimulating games rather than playing with dolls. I love making people laugh, especially my friends and family!
