Check Out Cheryl Farrens’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Farrens.

Hi Cheryl, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a potter and ceramic artist since 1985. My mother got me interested in it. I taught pottery as part of my chemistry courses and opened my studio in NE Texas in 2006. I retired from teaching in 2017 and went full-time into pottery, warm fused glass, equine art and photography. I’ve won local, state, and national awards. I’m Aspbergers and working with my hands, and teaching others, is one way of using it as a positive.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Main struggle is learning that not everyone will love my artand there are ups and downs to being self-employed when the economy wobbles. Many raw materials are imported which creates price fluctuations.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Potter, equine artist, warm fused glass.
Most proud of my award winning animal ceramics and my abstract art glazing on teapots.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Don’t take criticism personally.
Your art will never please everyone.
