Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Brooke
Hi Christina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a local artist. I was raised in East Texas at Cedar Creek Lake.
Mom of 2 daughters.
I work with:
Acrylic painting, sculpture, mixed media. I work with resin and clay—Well basically most creative mediums including found objects and animal skulls and taxidermy.
My husband and I also own Lucky 11 tattoo in GunBarrel City.
And- I’m an active member of Cedar Creek Lake Roller Derby.
And-I’m a Yoga Instructor and I’m a Certified Ayurveda specialist.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As we age Iife doesn’t get easier we just get better at it.
It’s never an easy road as an artist. I spent over 20 years on adult education, as a professional education specialist and instructor —traveled all over the United States.
I worked hard in my early career to be where I am today.
I like working for myself and the community. I’m proud of my business and my staff and love customers.
Making Oddities and tattoos isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but, I feel I make art for me and it’s a honor when customers want to buy it, take it home and love it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So, professionally….I’m a Bawss Babe and run a tattoo studio where I work as a professional piercer.
My husband and I opened our business Lucky 11 Tattoo in 2009. Last year we celebrated our 5th year in GunBarrel City. We love the lake and the community here.
Lucky 11 serves Cedar Creek Lake, with some of the best tattoo and piercing artists in the area.
We aren’t your traditional type of tattoo and piercing shop. We’re original on every level — our artwork, atmosphere and attitude.
We provide our clients with services and modifications that are innovative and unique through our various specialized techniques.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people are surprised when they hear I’m involved with roller derby.
Because of my mellow personality. I teach yoga and I’m into Ayurveda.
I practice aromatherapy
I practice sound therapy
I practice meditation.
I teach Reiki classes…
And also I’m into Roller Derby.
But, derby is a big part of my life.
There’s so many things I love about it.
Roller Derby is for everybody and every-body.
It provides me with a family outside my home with love support from my team. It connects me with strong women in my community. Moms just like me.
Cedar Creek Lake Roller Derby is my tribe -my friends, -my sisters -my team.
We also raise donations for local business like the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake and Veterans foundations.
Derby is new to our community so we welcome EVERYONE to join skate with us or donate or sponsor to help.
