Check Out Clint Sherman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clint Sherman.

Hi Clint, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always loved to sing. I can vividly recall sitting in front of my radio as a child, trying my best to sound like Garth Brooks. My love for music came from my mother always listening and sharing her favorite songs with me. At 12 years old, she bought me my first guitar. I was never shy about playing in front of people, even before I had the skill to justify any confidence. We stayed in Shreveport one weekend, and I spent my time riding the hotel elevator performing for any sorry sucker that got stuck with me!

The first time I played on stage was in church. At 15, I was asked to help lead a student worship band for the First Baptist Church of Royse City, Texas. It gave me a place to use my gifts and grow; I absolutely loved it! Music became a way for me to connect with people and express myself, and soon after that, I began to write my own songs.

Out of high school, I was on staff at several churches as a worship leader and minister. When I was 20, I was leading at a small church in Rockwall and met a gal named Ashley Howell. She is an incredible singer, has worked as a studio vocalist, and became a great friend of mine while serving at this church together. I give Ashley a lot of credit for encouraging me to share my songs with the world and pursue songwriting and performing as a career. I had begun to build a catalog of original music and started sharing it with family and friends. They helped me see that I had a gift, so I started playing gigs and in 2017 I recorded and released my first original song!

I formed a country-rock band and performed all around Texas, played as a duet with Ashley, and continued to develop my songwriting! I had a song air on the radio for the first time in May of 2018 and have since had several songs earn radio airtime in Texas and Nashville, Tennessee. In 2020, I made the decision to start pursuing my career as a solo artist. The pandemic changed the world and the gig economy, so I pivoted and began my journey with NBC’s The Voice!

Before 2020, I never would have thought I’d pursue a singing competition show. I had been asked hundreds of times whether I had auditioned, but always said it wasn’t for me. God had another plan! In 2021, after being asked to audition again for the third time, I got confirmation that I had made the cut and was going to Hollywood to audition for The Voice. I earned a spot-on Blake Shelton’s team for the 21st season of the show and met some incredible people along the way. I’ve carried those relationships with me and in June of 2022, I released “Happy to Drive” with The Voice co-star, Carson Peters. We hit the road for the “Happy to Drive” Road Show shortly after, which included performances across Tennessee and a studio interview on WSM’s Coffee, Country & Cody morning show broadcast on Nashville’s WSM Radio and worldwide on Circle Television.

Music is powerful. A melody carries a message further and deeper. Songs can take you to another time and place, open your mind to new ideas, and mend hurting hearts. It’s a gift to tell stories through song and connect with people because the people are most important. I am thankful to be able to do this and hope to be a blessing to those who hear my songs.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I grew up with a single mom. After my parents divorced when I was 6, my mom, Pene, raised me and my younger brother, Clay, on her own. She worked incredibly hard and I am thankful to have a parent who loves us so well, but we consistently lived in poverty. I can say that I never went hungry, but we felt our financial struggle in other ways.

My mom recalls most of this time as being in “survival mode.” We were constantly moving, living with family members at times. At one point we were forced to move from a rental with no notice after the sale of the house, so we lived in a camper trailer in a friend’s driveway for six months. We have felt the weight of death, sickness, injury, sin, and all the things common to man.

I’ve said that where the ideal situation wasn’t present in our life, God’s grace abounded. We didn’t have the traditional family to care for us, but there were always people who stepped in. God redeems families to the thousandth generation. I’ve seen Him begin a work in my family that will surely be finished! He gives good gifts to his children. My mom raised two good young men and is now the owner of a construction and development company.

Clay is engaged to be married to a wonderful girl named Abby. I am very proud of him.

I am engaged to a brilliant and beautiful girl named Jenni. God has blessed us immensely!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a storyteller at heart! I write songs to connect with people, encourage them, bring them joy, mourn with them, love them, and remind them what is real. I perform my songs to the same ends in the hopes of blessing people because I have been blessed. I do it because I love it.

I have performed on television for millions of people, played at some of the most iconic songwriter venues in America, and had my songs air on national country radio. While those things are incredible, I am more humbled by them than I am proud. What I am proud of is the impact I have on people. I love to see the artists around me grow. I love when a kid at my show tells me they want to be a songwriter too! I love when people connect to a lyric I wrote or dance to a song I sing.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
This has been fun for me. It’s hard to give just one memory.

When I was turning 13, my mom threw a surprise birthday party for me at the church gym and all of my friends were there. We were moving to another school the following year, so it was a really special thing to have a big bash before I left. I love to dance and we had a Dj there. We all danced and danced and danced!
