Today we’d like to introduce you to Connilyn Cossette.
Hi Connilyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I began writing fiction seriously when I was in my mid-thirties, but always wanted to be an author since I was a child. Once I finished my manuscript, I entered a couple of writing contests and, through some success with those connected with a literary agent who pitched my story to publishers. I soon received an offer from my dream publisher, and now, 14 books later, I am still just as much in love with spinning stories as I was as a kid.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to publishing was not an easy one. There’s a lot of waiting, a lot of rejection, tough criticism and so much tenacity involved. But I learned so much along the way, about myself and writing, and wouldn’t exchange those lessons for anything.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write historical fiction that takes place in the Biblical Era, mostly focused during the Old Testament period. What sets me apart from other writers in my genre are fictional main characters (as opposed to Bible characters) who are witnesses to the events in the Bible and that the majority of my work is done in first person in order to give readers a deep sense of being present in my stories.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have a group of fellow authors who are my biggest supporters in my work. The five of us meet once a year to plot stories together and lift each other up. Writing can be a solitary endeavor, but these ladies provide so much community and encouragement for me.
