Check Out Dawn Conner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Conner.

Hi Dawn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My daughter Darci has always been an avid romance reader. Whether she was curled up with a swoon-worthy novel or sipping a glass of wine while lost in a fictional love story, reading has been her personal escape and passion for years.

In early 2024, Darci came to me with a dream that combined two of her favorite pastimes: a romance-themed bookstore with an adjoining bar. As someone who had been actively exploring new business opportunities, her idea immediately resonated with me—not just as an entrepreneur, but as her mom.

Our love for books has always been a shared bond, going all the way back to when we devoured the Twilight series together during her high school years. Those long conversations about characters, plot twists, and love stories brought us closer, and we realized how powerful that kind of connection can be.

That’s when it clicked: why not create a space where others could experience that same joy and sense of community? A welcoming haven for romance readers to gather, sip, and celebrate the stories that move them.

This business is more than just a bookstore or a bar—it’s a tribute to shared passions, meaningful relationships, and the joy of storytelling.

For her 29th Birthday in July 2024 I bought our domain name and EIN – the beginnings of any new successful business… right? lol

On September 28, 2024, we debuted our concept at a pop-up market in Denton. We weren’t sure what to expect—but the response was overwhelming. Over the next three weeks, we hosted six more pop-up events, each one fueling our passion and vision even more.

Then, by a stroke of luck and determination, we found the perfect space for our brick-and-mortar location. Renovations began on November 1, 2025. We poured our hearts into transforming the space—painting, shelving, sourcing furniture, and designing every detail to feel like the ultimate escape for romance readers.

After two months and 17 days of tireless work, we finally opened our doors. To our amazement, over 1,400 people walked through them on opening weekend.

This isn’t just a bookstore. It’s a love letter—to books, to the bond between mothers and daughters, and to the magic that happens when people come together through shared passions.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, it’s been a smooth transition—though I say that very loosely. Like any big project, we ran into our share of unexpected hurdles. From construction delays to last-minute surprises during renovations, there were definitely moments that tested our patience (and our timeline). But each challenge became an opportunity to learn and grow. We met them with determination, grace, and a whole lot of grit. And through it all, we’ve come to believe more than ever that we’re exactly where we’re meant to be.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been a bookkeeper for most of my life and most recently, the past five years, I was a Residential Realtor. I have left all of that behind to focus all of my time and energy on this beautiful bookstore.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Determination, resilience and patience.
