Today we’d like to introduce you to Doak Rapp.
Hi Doak, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Doak Rapp, or, as most of you might know me, River from the circle!
I feel like the events that led to the “The Circle” part of this story started in about 2011-2012, when I first started doing theatre. I was about 11 or 12 years old when I started doing theatre, and it changed the course of my life forever. I was a pretty nerdy and angry kid and having the outlet theatre provided helped me add a discipline to my life that really helped me out, I can’t imagine what path I would be on without it. I continued doing theatre professionally throughout high school, and into the present. My dream is to become a stage actor!
In many of the various productions I did, Chuck Marcelo was involved. He was a photographer that would often shoot photos for publicity, and he is also the mutual friend that introduced me to Lee!
In the summer of 2020, Lee and I started our friendship, which would eventually lead to our mutual appearances on The Circle!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As far as The Circle goes, it was an incredibly smooth ride for me! I feel like the brunt of the hardships, if any were present, fell on Lee; as he is the one who actually appeared on the show. For me, I took pictures and sent them to Lee, who would pass them on to Netflix. A pretty sweet gig if you ask me!
Separate from The Circle, there have been many hardships in my life; however, I don’t dwell on them, because I think the key to success in this industry, or any industry for that matter, is to learn from you strife and keep moving forward!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As stated earlier, I am mainly an Actor; however, I don’t think that is all-encompassing.
A majority of my professional work has been within the realm of Acting and Improv. I’ve worked at many theatres around Dallas as an actor and improviser, and worked on a couple films as well; however, I have dreams to model, direct films and plays, and create stories!
I currently have an improv show with my 2-person Troupe, Self-Diagnosed, at the Dallas Comedy club, every Sunday at 8:00 pm! The troupe consists of me and my girlfriend, Nadia DeWolf, and it is currently my favorite thing to do every week!
I’ve had a decent amount of theatre-related accolades in my day, which Is awesome! As for my greatest achievement, However, I think being where I am in my life is it. I’m happy. Of course, I have ambitions to be in more plays, more films, doing more creative things; however, I’m in a happy relationship, pseudo-financially stable situation, with a roof over my head and food in my belly. I think that is quite the achievement.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Obviously, my family is worth mentioning here. They have always been very supportive of my dreams and aspirations throughout all of this. I am very fortunate in that sense because I feel like that isn’t always the case for people going into a creative field.
However, specifically, I think I owe the most credit to my theatre mentor, Jeff Swearingen. He has taught me almost everything I know about theatre and has helped me out in life so much along the way. I really owe a lot of what I have in my life today to the things he has taught me throughout my life. I cannot imagine where I would be without the things, I’ve learned from him.
In terms of “The Circle,” I owe a lot of credit its Chuck Marcelo, who I mentioned earlier; and of course, the magnificent Lee Swift. They were truly the catalysts behind my appearance on The Circle, and it has been and awesome and wild ride!
And of course, I have to shout out the greatest girlfriend to ever grace this mortal coil, Nadia DeWolf. We have had many an adventure together, and she is always super supportive and super great. I truly cannot imagine my life without her present.
