Check Out Dorian Rogers’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorian Rogers.

Dorian Rogers

Hi Dorian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have been in the mortgage industry right out of college. After graduating, I just wanted to have my call center job as that was the “go-to” job back then. I started working in Bank of America call center for mortgage payments and was cursed out so much because people did not know that their payment could increase due to the property taxes and insurance it bothered me so much, so I had to figure out who was the person at the front of the link that had not warned the borrower this could occur. This sparked my passion in mortgage and I started looking for other jobs. I went from servicing to appraisals to underwriting. While working in underwriting, I realized the person at the front of the line was the loan officer, and that was truly the role for me. (Especially since I always got in trouble for not staying at my desk as a underwriter and socializing too much.) My first year as a loan officer, I did not make as much money as I expected to keep my family afloat, so I became a loan officer assistance and that branch manager feed my soul by letting me know that I could really run the whole branch, so I was promoted into management. For the last 5 years, I have managed but in 2023, I am not a full-time loan officer helping as many families as I can instead. It has been a blessing to be able to make the switch and be able to support my family as well as educated and help other families become homeowners and start down the path of generational wealth.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. Trying to figure out what was best role for me was the biggest struggle I had. As I have switched roles within the mortgage world, learning where I could really touch hearts, and change lives was where I wanted to be but did not really know how to get there. IT took me getting into a branch and around people that actually believed in me for me to believe in myself.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am your Mortgage Lady in Red. 🙂 I am a mortgage loan officer, or some call us a lender. I specialize in helping first-time homebuyers as well as returning homeowners gain homeownership. First-time homebuyers are my passion because I love breaking the myths of buying a home. It is not so hard when you have the right team. Staying on top of the guidelines has truly allowed for me to rescue deals when buyers may have thought they would be homeless due to their deal falling apart other places. The biggest thing that sets me apart from others in my profession has to be my communication. If it’s a good talk or a bad talk, I do not hesitate to pick up the phone and explain the situation to all parties involved because education and communication are the keys to get buyers their keys.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Patience. With what we do, this is business for us BUT for the client it is personal. Having patience to understand others’ story to know how to truly help has been the biggest lesson I have learned. It’s okay to slow down and not have all the answers to truly be able to help the next person.
