Check Out Dr. Elvia Espino’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Elvia Espino.

Hi Dr. Espino, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Well, truthfully it all started way back when from as far back as I can remember. I knew I was destined for so much more. I grew up with my sisters to a single mom. My dad was still very much in the picture just not within the home. That meant I saw and experienced a lot of things most parents would never want for their children. I learned early on what it was to grow up not having certain things you needed, let alone wanted.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This question is almost laughable and totally glad I didn’t have water I my mouth as I’m typing my answer. What is easy?!? I surely do not have that knowledge. In the end, I know that all of the struggles were part of the test to be used for the testimony. Everyone sees you at your glory, but no one knows the story. This is where I am determined to change that dynamic. For me as a Latina Scholar, author, change agent, and empowerment speaker I need others to see themselves as me and or in me. Representation matters and it’s critical for the people that come behind us know that there’s always a way out of no way!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve dedicated my professional career to the world of public relations in both the private and public sectors. I’ve enjoyed incredible successes working with celebrities to political figures. I have an incredible list of accomplishments and I’m proud of them all. For instance, being a first-generation college graduate, a part of 1 percent Latinas who holds a doctorate, an author, a mother, mentor, but mostly the fact I’m still standing. Every major obstacle meant to destroy me has made me better. My resiliency is what sets me apart from others. I don’t know how to give up, and that’s a fact.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Determination and passion, in this order. You have to want your dreams so much more as if wanting air to breathe. Your dream’s purpose should be bigger than you.
