Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Brown
Hi Ebony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2016-2017, I was stationed in South Korea, away from family and friends. Despite the isolation, I found solace in the country’s vibrant fashion scene. The way people layered clothes was captivating, and I fell in love with the styles I saw in store windows. Growing up, I was often told I dressed “weird,” but in Korea, I finally felt a sense of belonging. My grandmother’s passing during that time was a turning point. I realized I didn’t want to live a life without purpose or passion. So, I decided to leave the military and pursue my dream of working in fashion. I bought a sewing machine and began teaching myself to sew, marking the start of an incredible journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey in the fashion industry has been a transformative odyssey of trials and triumphs. Through self-directed learning, I overcame the absence of mentorship and guidance. Enrolling in school furthered my knowledge, and although COVID accelerated the graduation process, I remained committed to my goals. I have encountered some bad people/deals but I learned to navigate these challenges with resilience. Every experience, no matter how daunting, has been a valuable lesson in perseverance and determination. With unwavering dedication and unrelenting passion to succeed, I firmly believe that any obstacle can be overcome.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a visionary fashion designer in Stylist, I began by sparking creativity in others, helping them bring their concepts to life. Over time, I honed my sewing skills and embarked on creating my own clothing line. Today, I proudly helm a slow fashion brand, offering an array of ready-to-wear garments and bespoke pieces, from hoodies to gowns. Embracing my creative spirit, I believe in pushing boundaries and exploring new possibilities. By specializing in avant-garde and upcycled clothing, I empower myself and others to rethink the fashion paradigm and strive for positive change
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Yes, I actually appreciate watching Pastor Dharius Daniels. Having recently embarked on my spiritual journey with God, I found it essential to connect with a pastor I could understand and relate to, and watching online church sessions has been a great source of inspiration for me. Additionally, I frequently watch Haute la mode, listen to podcasts like The Run-Through with Vogue, and follow various YouTube creators who focus on sewing.
