Today we’d like to introduce you to Genna Skolnik.
Prior to having my first child in 2013, I worked for Big Pharma in the Specialty Pharmaceuticals arena. After Zachary was born, I chose to stay home and grow our family. During this time, my husband and I were fortunate enough to build three homes together. I had always felt like the agent representing us on our first sale (and purchase) took advantage of our limited Real Estate knowledge and understanding. The second agent who helped us to sell our next home, Damon Williamson, was excellent. When we signed up to build our third home, we felt that it “should be” easy to move forward without an agent, as we had already built two homes before. Oh boy, do we wish that we could go back in time and change everything about the way that our third home purchase/construction had been represented. After the completion of our third home and all of the misrepresentations by the builder, I enrolled at Champion School of Real Estate, in an effort to have a better understanding of what “we” did wrong in trusting our builder, and what we could and would need to do better in the future. After experiencing some “Covid Complications” and the scheduling/re-scheduling of my Real Estate Exams, I obtained my license in November 2021. Today, I am thankful for the disappointing experiences (and builder) that fueled me to obtain my Real Estate License!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Initially, I had to re-access ‘who’ I am and ‘what’ that means. Being surrounded by Industry leaders at Compass was both intimidating and inspiring. Together with tenacity, passion, and powerful agents who graciously welcomed my calls for mentorship – I exceeded my 12-month goal within 5 months, and proceeded to achieve my Luxury Home Specialist Accreditation, further building my confidence!
I have never looked back since hanging my license at Compass with Damon at The Williamson Group! Of course, being a ‘green’ Agent in this unbelievable, fast-paced market can be challenging. From Day One, I set high goals for myself and immediately upon hanging my license, assembled a team of Industry Rockstars – my Principal included – each with different strengths and insight into all of the niche opportunities that Real Estate provides – Residential, Commercial, Land, etc!
Real Estate has always been a passion of mine and this new life chapter still seems surreal! I could not be more grateful and honored to have friends and clients who trust and refer to me!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Dallas has been “home” to me since birth, although my parents are originally from South Africa. Growing up in Dallas with very little family has given me a unique perspective when working with clients and considerations for the next place that they will call “home”. I am known for being excited, genuine and a hard worker! In a complicated, frenzied, and frothy market, I have found that it is important to remain smart, savvy, and listen to your clients’ wants. My love of people and outgoing person-ability is what helps me to navigate all relationships of what I feel contribute to a successful Real Estate transaction!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
You have one opportunity to establish a reputation for yourself – be kind, be informed, and be honest! I always tell my clients, the only part of this process that is personal for me, is them. I put their best interests before everything else, always. It takes a strong team to bring a house from Contrac to Close – Agents, Lenders, Title Company – it is important to appreciate your “team”.
