Check Out Heather Wood’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Wood.

Hi Heather, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My business journey started while I was working with investments, on the track to becoming an investment advisor. I realized my heart was not in it, and I was doing something I did not enjoy just to afford to teach dance and cheer after my 9-5. My now husband, William, had just graduated his doctoral program and was a Chiropractor in Forney, and he absolutely loved going to work. I was envious of his passion and told him I wish I could make a living only teaching Cheerleading and Dance. and he told me to just go for it! So, I quit my 9-5 and went back to school for Child Development and Psychology, which gave me the ability to become a University of Texas at Dallas cheerleader and gave me the experience I needed to teach at a higher level. While in School back in 2015, I started classes 1 day a week in Mesquite, and 1 day a week in Denton, renting space from churches and gyms. Fast forward 2 years, I was operating both locations 5 days a week with 11 staff members and 200+ students. As of today, I have 28 staff members and 511 students, and my dreams of working full-time with cheerleaders and dancers has become a full-fledged career with more growth potential than ever!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth, although I have been blessed with a fabulous staff, it was not easy getting the wonderful crew we have now. I have had 3 staff members steal from us, we have had people break in and steal equipment, and worst of all in the summer of 2021 I decided to try to go into business with the new owners of another local gym and found out the hard way they were just trying to take their competition away and let me go. Luckily, my staff and students’ families recognized this and all but 1 family left them and stayed with us as we spent 1 month building a new location in Mesquite, and we have thrived ever since!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
