Today we’d like to introduce you to Heaven Shamba.
Heaven, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I remember my first memory of being conscious of music, I was about 5 years old and my best friend showed me a video of Michael Jackson on the tv. I watched the dancing, the singing and I was completely enamored… after I watched that video, I decided right there that I would do music.
From that moment to the time I actually got in front of a Microphone was a whole 12 years. My friend Yeroc said he wanted me on his mixtape summer 16, so I recorded a few tracks and they lowkey buzzed around the city but I didn’t take it too seriously. Then in 2018, I started performing on stage, and that’s when I decided to take it serious. From then till now It’s just been cultivating my vision and making sure everything I do has a certain level of excellence & expression.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a roller coaster of a ride. From moving to a whole new state just trying to figure out how I’m going to be able to afford groceries, to dealing with all the different opinions of where they think I should direct my career. I’ve experienced the lowest of lows but they’ve made me stronger. My music was trash at some point and I had to push through that phase until I got to a point of making art that is subjectively good. I also used to do a lot of things that were out of my alignment and that took a toll on me mentally and physically. I believe the key is trusting your instincts.
You still have to deal with the difficult moments, but you know they will pass and you will be a better you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a musical artist & as of lately I’ve been getting my feet wet in the world of writing. I don’t like to say I’m an artist, when people ask me I tell them I create worlds because that’s what I’m doing. I’m creating a sonic sphere for the listener to escape their current reality for however long it may be. I feel what I do very deeply so I like to make people feel as well. I specialize in energy… whether it’s through my words that you are reading, or through the presence, you feel when I step on stage. I specialize in giving my audience a healing energy, a place where they can feel free and forget about the stresses of life.
Tagging along to what I said earlier, I’m definitely known for my energy. I don’t think too much about it, I just do what feels right and try to pass on the things I learn. But people tell me all the time that they are inspired by my energy & my journey. I feel like it’s a huge blessing to have the ability to be a channel that can allow people to feel the need to progress in whatever way.
That’s what sets me apart, my energy. I’m very optimistic and full of light, if I believe it can happen then it will happen, I think people are drawn to that essence. I think I gift people with that essence.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yeah, Covid was a crazy time. The biggest thing it taught me was how to look into myself, look deep inside of myself for my own answers. I spent a lot of time reading and writing, developing a stronger bond with self so I believe I walk through this life with my head a little higher now. It also taught me the fragility of human life. Now I treasure every moment that much more because we honestly never know what tomorrow holds for us
