Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilton Jackson.
Hi Hilton, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Raised in a military-influenced home and drawn to firearms, I actually spent years chasing the basketball dream like many. After college, moving to Texas reintroduced me to the world of firearms and shooting—first as an enthusiast, then eventually down the winding road to an instructor. I began attending more firearm shows, meeting new people, refreshing my fundamentals, and rekindling my drive to learn and share.
However, I’m not done learning, and I don’t want to be. I train others to be capable and safe, and I actively seek training myself to stay sharp. I’ve learned that there are many ways to reach the same endpoint—and that endpoint looks different for every student. Some need confidence to overcome anxiety; others seek clarity amid misinformation; many simply want to enjoy firearms safely and responsibly with their families.
I’m honored to work with a great team—Steve Hopwood, Dr. Casilda Maxwell, and Ms. Shannon Gulley. Together, we deliver some of the most interactive classes and diverse courses in the DFW area, making safety, skill, and practical decision-making accessible to more people.
I’m also proud to serve as Co-Chair for the Aim for Safety program, affiliated with Cook Children’s Hospital System in Fort Worth. This initiative provides knowledge, education, and resources to families with kids of all ages to understand why accountability matters when there are firearms in the home. Receiving a community award for helping educate families is a tangible reminder of why I do what I do: education, safety, service, and a commitment to the community I’m privileged to be part of.
Today, I run a firearms training company (Gideon Training Solutions) dedicated to safety, technique, and thoughtful decision-making. The journey hasn’t been without missteps, but each one has deepened my empathy for learners at every level. What keeps me going is the moment a student shifts—from doubt to capability, from anxiety to control, from misinformation to understanding. I train to serve the community, honor the responsibilities that come with skill, and keep learning so others can safely enjoy what I love.
If you’d like to connect for training, I’m here to help with information, guidance, and hands-on instruction. I’m always learning, always serving.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey may not always be easy, but there are those ready to help you learn and grow. While some may feel that sharing knowledge diminishes their own value, remember that the DFW Metroplex is filled with countless instructors and eager learners. You will never run out of opportunities to connect and train. Stay persistent, embrace consistency, and meet people where they are; your efforts will pave the way for growth and success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have worked in Healthcare essentially my entire career. As a Revenue Cycle Professional, those skills have taken me all over the world to help HCP’s and Hospital networks improve their bottom line. The landscape of contract language, understanding healthcare coverage policies, rand eimbursement terminology can be very complex, but I love the challenge.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is service—to help people feel capable and informed, not overwhelmed. That means building accessible, high-integrity training, collaborating with a strong team, and continually learning myself. I’ve seen firsthand that there isn’t one path to responsible ownership; there are many, and I’m here to guide each person to their best, safest outcome.
