Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Jackson.
Hi Holly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Approximately 30 years ago I was pregnant and was pregnant and in a domestic violence situation. When I left the situation, I ended up in a homeless shelter… At the time you could only stay 72 hours and after that time period, I had to leave. Because I worked and made $7.11 too much, I was not eligible for any type of benefits so I lived on the streets. I remember being judged and ridiculed and people had no idea of what my story really was. After I was able to get on my feet, I did many years of volunteering. In 2018 I saw a family needing help and I had an epiphany about a magic place where people could go and get things that they needed without people judging them. Walls of love was not meant to be a nonprofit nonprofit or anything that it is right now but God had other plans for me. One small act of love and kindness has now turned into the nonprofit that you see today. In a little under 4 years, we have done almost 1750 walls in 26 States across the United States and we have helped almost one million people. A 100% of what we do goes back to the community. We run strictly on donations and volunteers I do not have any big corporate sponsorships or even have a grant writer. We are so appreciative of everyone who helps us along the way whether it is with likes or shares ordinations or hanging our walls of love containing: nonperishable food items, essential items, school supplies, and warm weather gear. All of these items are free to whomever says they need them no questions asked.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but it is so worth it. Through covid, the need has quadrupled at minimum. There are many times where I cry because I want to help more people and sometimes, I just don’t have the means to do it. I’m hoping that eventually, we will have a Grant rider show up and help us and a corporate sponsor response are who will be permanent.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Outside of running a nonprofit full time I also work full-time in the public sector. I am so proud of the fact that I have turned tragedy into triumph. It makes me so happy to help others and change the world one person at a time with a simple act of kindness.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If you would like to volunteer or donate to our cause we would greatly appreciate that. No amount is too small.
We are A 501c3 and all donations are tax-deductible.
