Today we’d like to introduce you to Ibrahim “Lejin” Elahi.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Im Ibrahim “Lejin” Elahi. Im a Dallas – Ft.Worth baby 100% lol
I was born on the Eastside of Aggtown (Arlington),Texas. I come from a well known musical family from West Dallas. Growing up in the Nation of Islam, a lot of my childhood upbringing took place in the Southside of Ft.Worth, This was the location of my place of worship at the time.
Since I could walk I was singing and dancing. Imitating my biggest inspiration in entertainment, Michael Jackson. Since the age of 4, I was doing solo performances at local and school talent shows. I always had a love for music!
Growing up in Texas, I didn’t see dance and music a realistic career until I got to college. Ive been a high level performing athlete since the age of 10. I ran track at the University of Texas at Arlington where I qualified for the conference championship my freshman year as a walk on. I didn’t come from money and I didn’t have a lot of resources at the time. I worked a full time job to help pay for my remainder of tuition that financial aide wouldn’t cover. I slept on the floor that semester due to bedbugs ruining my furniture. The stress of the unforeseen expectation of a D1 athlete exceeded my capacity at the time. I suffered a broken ankle after completing indoor season. The first practice back from my ankle injury, I suffered a torn hamstring. Due to my own depression, I quit the track team. Soon enough, word gets around that I can dance and it leads to me getting booked to perform at schools and different events around the city of Dallas.
In 2013 is when I got my first professional dance opportunity to dance in a “Play N Skillz” featuring “Bun B”! Ever since that day, I never questioned my purpose again, Since then, Ive booked with some of the biggest names the music industry has to offer! My credits include; Lil Wayne, Solange, Will Smith, Erykah Badu, Mo3, B2k, Leon Bridges, Pharrell, Dondria, A$AP Rocky, and the CBS network where I choreographed for the game show “Loteria Loca”. I was also hand chosen for the first Co-Ed NBA Dance Crew for the Dallas Mavericks. Starting my dance career as a street dancer, I quickly gained popularity by the my versatility and raw expression.
In 2020, I created a creatives crew called “Boogieland”. I wanted to create a group that embodies the essence of Dallas culture. Not just from the dance style of “Dallas Boogie’, but the fashion, lingo, and the spirit of Dallas. We center around the dance style of “dtownboogie”. Raisng the bar and showcasing the importance of Dallas roots and how Dallas dance culture has shaped the party culture in the music and dance industry. Dallas Boogie is a high energy dance curated by a multitude of popular figures in the inner city of Dallas and surrounding areas. Dallas Boogie consist of dance moves like “My Dougie”, Franky, Mr.Hit Dat, Stanky Legg, Bend, and more. Boogieland and myself has just came back from Japan for the 3x time where we headlined another sold-out event.
In 2020, I also created a Dance event called ” Club Lejindary”. Club Lejindary is the first ever Dtownboogie dance class. I curated a curriculum to teach others how to learn dtownboogie, This dance style didn’t start in a dance studio or classroom. Most dance moves had to be learned at the clubs and parties at the time. I have toured my dance event all around the United States: Mississippi, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas and New Orleans to name a few. I have also taken my classes overseas to countries such as Guinea, Senegal, and Japan. Club Lejindary has received amazing support from artist of Dallas, Club Lejindary has been attended by Dallas Legends such as Leon Bridges, Fat Pimp, OhBoyPrince, Big Spain, Young Black, Dorrough, Yung Nation, JhonnieDamnD, Mr.HitDat, Lil RonnyMothaF and Dj Paparon. Club Lejindary has become a staple in the Dallas community.
This Summer I released my first album “Boogieland”. I was fortunate enough to headline my first show as an artist and record my first music video in Tokyo Japan! I look forward to see how the rest of 2026 has in store.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Very rewarding but nothing about my journey in particular has been smooth. I will share this one recent story as an example.
I had a near fatal accident and was kidnapped/held for ransom in Africa at the end of 2024. Its people that I thought were close friends who still don’t know this story.. I was alone and bed ridden for several days in an unfamiliar country.
The struggle I had to face wasn’t almost expiring. It was getting a rude awakening of all the friendships that I hadn’t noticed that were expired. I was alone and broken. I still had to find a reason to move forward. No matter how much I wanted to stop. I knew if I stopped, the sacrifices thus far would have been for nothing, I’m grateful for not quitting on myself. I had to find the self love to push through. To see that inner child in myself, smile again.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the face of Dallas Culture. I specialize In Dallas Boogie, a dance style native to Dallas Texas.i am the inventor of the “Dallas Boogie” dance class. I am most proud of how I represent myself and how much love I receive from my supporters all over the world. I’m very grateful for the role that I hold in representing the culture of Dallas Texas all around the world.
For the last 10 years I’ve been the Flash Mob Director for the state of Texas for an Agency. I travel around Texas creating magically moments for people who want surprise dance performances for different occasions. I love that I get the privilege to be apart of moments people will remember for the rest of their lives.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Find someone who is successfully doing what you want to do. Personally, Ive learned a lot from watching others who are in high ranking job positions.
