Check Out Jada Dodd’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Dodd.

Hi Jada, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Photography has been in my life since I was 5, but I didn’t make it a dream to become a photographer until high school. Art, in any form, has always been my way to escape from reality. My imagination is what really drives my creativity.

I got my first camera back in 2013 and have grown so much over the years. I’ve always felt that being self-taught has given me the opportunity to put my own style into my art. It’s made it easier to not criticize myself and to be able to take harsh words from others. Looking at how much I have improved has been a huge eye-opener. I honestly never thought that I would be at the level that I am now and I’m so grateful for how far I have come. I still have things to learn, but that’s the beauty of being a creator.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! I’ve wanted to give up so many times because I thought I wasn’t good enough or my pictures weren’t as great as other photographers. But I had to come to a point where I stopped comparing myself to others and make my photography my own and give my art its own unique flavor. Confidence in every aspect of my life has always been a huge struggle for me. Also dealing with mental health issues hasn’t really helped either. But I’m a fighter. I always have been and always will be. Life has not been easy for me, but that hasn’t stopped me from living my dreams.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am currently a preschool teacher and a photographer on the side. I also dog/house sit as a side hustle.

I love being a teacher and I currently teach 2-year-olds. I love my kids and being able to shape and teach young minds. I never saw myself being in the position that I’m in, but I have loved every second of it.

Photography is my passion. My main goal in life is to do photography full-time while also teaching during the school year. I have plans and dreams of owning studios in Dallas, Austin, and Houston.

Dog sitting, oddly enough, has become an amazing hobby. I’ve actually had a thought about starting my own dog sitting business as well, but photography is my main goal.

I’m most proud of who I am as an artist and teacher. I am real. I am honest and upfront. I don’t beat around the bush when it comes to my thoughts and feelings. I’d say I’m most known for being myself and being as blunt as I am. I keep to myself for the most part, but I’m not afraid to speak up and stand up for myself and the people I love.

What makes you happy?
The little things in life. Buying a new book or art supplies. Cuddling and playing with my kids at work. Spending quality time with the people I love and care about. Sitting in silence with someone and just enjoying their company. Being alone.

I’ve gone so long not being happy that I find happiness in whatever I can now. The joy that God gives me every day just by waking me up each morning is more than enough to make me happy. Sometimes I forget that because of life’s struggles, but there’s always those little reminders throughout my day that bring me back to having my joy and happiness.
