Check Out Jason Carter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Carter.

Hi Jason, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I took a leap of faith and moved to Dallas, Texas in September of 2015, from Toledo, Ohio, to take a worship leader position at Limitless Church Dallas, At the time, I really didn’t know my full purpose of what led me to Dallas, but I just felt it was needed for my life. And come to find out, moving to Dallas actually saved my life; as soon as I moved here, I got acclimated really quick, and things that I only dreamed of started happening, from singing background for different R&B and Gospel artists and also dabbling in some acting roles as well.

My biggest challenge and a dream of mine was to record my first album, and in October of 2021, I released my first Gospel EP called Pen and Paper Volume 1. The album, since its release has peaked at #11 on iTunes Top 200 Christian Charts and also #88 on Billboards Top 100 Gospel Album charts. I recorded the album not just for the people of faith but also for those who has lost hope and are finding answers within themselves. To this day, I get messages and emails of how the songs on the album are restoring hope and faith in people’s lives and also bringing them back to church, in which they been away from for so long. This album is just a small encouragement to restore faith, hope, and love.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Even though this journey has been fulfilling, yet it was a tough one. From moving here and getting used to the cost of living here to almost being homeless and having my car repoed twice. (This is insane because I never told anyone that I was going through all of this)

Overcoming depression and past hurt and pain, I managed to get through it all because I always knew that there was a light at the end of the tunnel, and I knew my faith in God would help me get through those tough times. As many days and nights I wanted to give up and pack up everything and move back to Ohio, I knew there’s more purpose for me here in Dallas.

Looking back, I make no regrets of going through tough times because I know someone may be going through the same thing, and by me sharing my story; it could be a sense of encouragement for them to help them overcome as well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I am a man of many hats; I am a singer, songwriter, worship leader, producer, background vocalist, actor, and soon-to-be author. My passion is to bring the best out of singers who might feel intimidated or even scared to either lead out and sing in front of others,

What I’m known for, from what I’ve been told, is that I am a full-circle singer. You can’t really put me in just one style of singing because I can do it all, and I’m always willing to be out of the box and not doing what everyone else is doing. It seems like singers/artists nowadays want to ride the wave of what everyone else is doing and begin follow suit…I’M NOT THAT GUY!!! I want to continue to break barriers in music just by being myself and not being traditional, Im most proud of the teachings and information I’ve gotten at an early age, and it has developed in me over the years to make me who I am today. I had AMAZING mentors who taught me to be ME at all times and allow God to continue to give me a creative heart and mind.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I have actually two fond memories!!! I remember growing up, my father had this huge vinyl record collection, and he would allow me (even at 5 & 6 years old) to play his records, and even though my father is no longer with us, I’ve inherited his vinyl collection, and added to it. I think I’m at a little over 1500 vinyls right now.

Also, I remember as a kid growing up in church, I would see the choir sing during Sunday service, and one of my favorite songs and movies is Purple Rain, and I would always tell either my mom or one of my aunts that I’m going to get up and sing Purple Rain, let’s just say my aunts made sure I stayed far away from the front of the church!!! Hahahaha!
