Jason & Victoria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
J Block & Co was born from the desire to own a home decor and gift boutique and provide people with a unique offering of everything from candles, to custom furniture and beautiful art pieces. Jason has been building heirloom custom furniture for local designers and homeowners for 10 years now, so when the opportunity to lease a space for a boutique that highlights his work became available on the Decatur Town Square we took the leap to realize one of our dreams.
Our thoughtfully curated collection of unique home decor items and gifts is intended to create a calming and uplifting feeling in every room. With beautiful furniture from J Block Designs spread throughout the store we encourage you to imagine your home adorned with our purposefully chosen items. With fine art and decorative accents, as well as candles and textiles, each piece is meticulously selected to inspire you and your guests.
We love to support local artisans and craftspeople. There is great pride in showcasing the talents of the creative individuals in our community. While not everything can be sourced locally, we do try to purchase from ethical small businesses located within Texas or Nationwide. By shopping with us, prove to the small business community that there is significant value in their contributions and support their growth.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A smooth road is very seldom worth traveling…without the bumps and bruises we don’t learn and make ourselves better as people or a business. Aside from raising the financial means to get the store open and build an inventory worthy of our customers, a big challenge is keeping up with all the behind the scenes work to market ourselves. Since there are only the two of this at this point, we wear all the hats, so it’s tough to keep up with Social Media, website updates, and promoting our business and more. We continue to improve on that every day and we do have some occasional help running the store while we have other obligations. From our family that has supported us in every possible way to our friends that have helped run the store when we had other obligations, there is no way we could have made it this far and we are beyond grateful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our specialty is figuring out the goal of each customer and assisting them in making it happen. Victoria is an expert at coming up with amazing gifts for friends and family members…whether its a single item or an elaborate gift set. Jason thrives on creating custom heirloom furniture that lasts for generations.
The thing that sets us apart from others is our intense focus on our customers and their experience when they shop with us. From an ever changing array of fragrances that fill the store when they walk through the doors to learning the names and stories of our regulars and building relationships with them, we are second to none!
We are so proud of the feedback we have received from all of our customers. On an almost daily basis we hear how beautiful the store is and that we have filled a need for the area. We’ve even overheard some people tell their friends that ours is their favorite store…What an honor! There are so many great boutiques on the square and we are so happy to be on that list!

There is no single resource that we could name, as it is ever-changing. If it is something that adds a positive energy, we take it in.
