Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah Woodard.
Hi Jeremiah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started to get into photography in high school. My brother, Tommy, is the reason why I wanted to get into it. I remember when he bought his first camera. It was a DSLR, in which he still has today. That man used it constantly and took it everywhere with him. I vividly remember one day I was curious on how to use it. He didn’t really teach me, but he let me figure it out for myself. He set his camera on the manual setting and messed around with it. It was my first time actually holding a camera and it made me want a camera myself. My parents bought me my first camera, it was a point-and-shoot. I got it on Christmas, and that same day, I took it all around my neighborhood and just started shooting instantly. It wasn’t until I graduated high school that I went and bought my own personal camera, a DSLR just like my brother. I didn’t really take it seriously at the time, but I always made sure I took time with the pictures I took. To get to where I am today, definitely was long and hard road to travel. There have been countless times where I just wanted to just get rid of my cameras and just give up on photography as a whole. I consider my brother as my mentor, he has taught me everything I know about photography, and I am forever grateful for that. I would like to thank my friends, my family, and other photographers who have sent me messages complimenting my work and giving me the strength to keep moving forward. I would like to thank my friends, my family, my beautiful girlfriend and other photographers who have sent me messages complimenting my work and giving me the strength to keep moving forward.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I have encountered a lot of things throughout my journey. There are days when I’m just feeling it, or I have a mental block of what I want to shoot throughout the day. I also deal with a lot of self-doubts, like I would shoot something, and I would knit pick every little detail that I find wrong and keep shooting until eventually get it right, but I feel like that’s what a lot of photographers go through, you know?
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I feel that my work is special in its own way. It kind of symbolizes how I feel and what kind of music I was listening to. I’m not really known in the photography world, and I’m okay with that because I know eventually, my time will come. I’ve always loved being around nature, it makes me feel like I can be myself with no one else around judging me. What I’m most proud of is my cousin’s graduation pictures I took. Those are my favorite all-time pictures. I think what sets me apart from others is that I may not seem like I’m serious about my work, but I’m just as serious as every other photographer when it comes to shooting.
Any big plans?
I plan on building a website to showcase my photography and give people a better understanding of who I am as a person. Also, I would like to participate in the Fort Worth Arts Festival. I really look forward to more interviews in the future, maybe do some in person.
