Today we’d like to introduce you to Jermaine Clarkson.
Jermaine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I basically been in music for about 20 years starting from middle school rapping with some friends in a group called Geeta Block Soljas that was kind of like a younger version of No Limit Records. We had some older friends that were rappers that inspired us to try to take it further because they had end up getting signed to Warlock Records that was very popular in those days. So from there we started getting a little buzz in certain places and me not knowing the industry of about the music business at that time, we got screwed out of a lot of money and at the same time a lot of other groups started to envy us, it was like all hell just had broke loose as time went on. So long story short life starting hitting everyone, we had 3 people in the group, 1 had moved to California the other dealing with legal issues and I went to jail so of course so things got delayed and ultimately, we pretty much just stopped. On down the road I got married which end up not working out and I ended up going to prison and that’s a story all by itself as it was self-defense. When I got out and basically, I had lost everything and went to a halfway house in Houston, Tx, got a job and after 2 months I ended up transferring to Waxahachie Tx and eventually started my own trucking business soon after and started going back to church, I got into ministry and thought I could actually count on them to help guide me alone the way, but they actually became jealous by knowing I have a felony and making the money I was making and they, having no felony and barely making minimum wage quickly become jealous and started spreading different rumors and that’s a whole other story in that also. So from there I moved on to pick back up my music and formed A.A.G. RECORDS and here I am today booking shows, done charted DRT, College, and more. Also, I do artist development, artist growth, Marketing, and more outside of music, basically a jack of all trades.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No smooth road at all, I dealt with scammers, people trying to block you, people stealing ideals, music and not to mention what life throws at you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an artist and CEO of my own record label and go by the name JLC. I specialized in taking artists from not being notice to being noticed. I help increased their exposure & get their numbers up.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being patient with people, having discipline, and persistence.
