Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Servin.
Hi Joe, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started off back in the middle 80’s DJing small parties here and there. I got more serious about it in the middle to late 90’s when I became a Radio personality on KNON 89.3fm. I DJd mostly Latin music including Tejano and Cumbia music. Fast forward to now and i own my DJ business and have been back on KNON 89.3FM for three years now. I DJ at various events around the DFW and I volunteer my services to local Senior Centers and to disadvantaged families. I love doing what I do to see people happy and for them to be able to forget about everyday life through music and dancing. Music has always been apart of my life thanks to My Mom and Dad, Sisters and Brothers. I took with me apart of everything they listened to and that is what was my first influence. Especially the Polkas and Country music My Parents enjoyed dancing to during the 70s and 80s.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Its not always been a smooth road as I had plenty of setbacks as I didn’t know the direction in life that I wanted to go. Playing music was my road to happiness as I saw the smiles and fun people were having as soon as I was able to see them dancing and enjoying themselves at various events. It made all those struggles I had seem meaningless as I found a purpose in life. To be able to entertain is a dream come true.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a volunteer DJ at KNON 89.3FM on Wednesdays from 12pm-4pm. I DJ various events throughout the DFW area including Weddings, Quinceneras, Large and Small Festivals, Birthday Parties and Corporate Events. I also DJ for various Senior Events at Dallas Recreation Centers. I have DJ for the Special Olympics at Cowboys Stadium. I also volunteer my DJ services for underprivileged families a few times a year for Quinceneras. I volunteer My DJ services for the Mesquite Elks Lodge where I am also an Elks Member. I am the DJ at The Mundo Latino Exhibit at the State Fair of Texas for the past 3 years now.
How do you define success?
Success to me is seeing people having fun and enjoying themselves through the music i provide. I feel my success is the reward of making people forget about everyday life as I also forget about it through the playing of music and entertaining on the microphone.
