Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Ekutshu.
Hi Joseph, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am a 26-year-old producer/singer-songwriter based in Fort Worth, Texas. I have been writing my own music for about 10 years and producing for about 7. My music can be classified as pop, R&B, or Alternative Rock but I do feel confident in my capability to produce and write in almost any other genres including Rock, Reggae, Afro-beat, and Hip-hop.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a relatively smooth road, mainly because I feel as though I am still in the beginning stages. I have been in two bands, one rock, and one R&B. Those did not work out, but I am still VERY close to all the musicians to this day. I’m currently embarking on a solo career and working on music of my own as well as trying to break out as a producer in the DFW music scene.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I consider myself a songwriter and a producer first and foremost. I think those two areas are where I feel the most skilled and confident. I sing and perform as an artist as well, but I am still polishing up in that arena. Honestly, I think I am most proud of my musical discernment. I think the greatest asset an aspiring producer could have is being able to tell what’s “good” and what’s “not good” in any genre. I like to believe that I innately have that skill. Of course, like any other skill, it must be developed and polished with time and experience. I think what sets me apart from other artists/producers is my willingness to completely suck in the name of ingenuity. I think to truly leave a mark in any art form, one must be willing to be daring and do the odd and unorthodox in order to break new ground. Of course, I can’t say I have broken any new ground, but I sure have sucked in hopes of doing so.
