Check Out Julia Miller’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Miller.

Hi Julia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a ballet dancer until I was a junior in high school. At this time, I thought that I needed to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, man was I wrong to think that I can figure that out at such an age. Once I turned down my only opportunity to make dancing my career, my acceptance Joffrey ballet school. I wanted to try something different but still something with a performance aspect. My sister dabbled in photography for a little bit so of course I was her subject I enjoyed being in front of the camera. I decided that I wanted to try modeling, after all, I did grow up looking at myself in a mirror, so I knew how to pose and use my body to make pretty lines. I applied to an agency in Houston, and I was told that I was too short, but that I could do acting I knew that this was going to lead to something so I agreed. I completed all my acting training, and I got signed with the agency for acting months later. When I was at a modeling and acting event, that is basically an audition for a bunch of different agencies around the world. I got a call back from my agency. I got a chance to talk to the modeling agent, which I didn’t get to meet her beforehand. She told me that I could model but only commercial and Print work because of my height. I just wasn’t tall enough to do runway. 60 days later I come back into the agency, and they sign me for modeling. I am the shortest model that my agency has ever signed; I was told that I couldn’t do Runway yet that is what I would get from them is paid Runway. I was told that I was too short, but I have done over 30+ runway shows including New York Fashion Week Miami swim week Austin fashion week and the list goes on today. I am typing this while I’m waiting on a bench for a show that I will be walking in, in Dallas. I am proud of how far I have come and all of the chances that I have taken. I have proven people wrong, and I have proven to myself that I can do this, I wanted to take this step further, and I actually am starting my own modeling workshop called how to model by a model. I will be doing a trail run in Houston on May 10th, and afterwords will be continuing this three-day workshop throughout the year. It’ll be posing and sharing the class dates available on my personal social media page and my business page.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been difficult as I have been told that I am too short. I have been turned away, but I didn’t let that bring me down. I have pushed harder and prospered forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I want to take this opportunity to talk about the classes that I will be teaching in May. It is broken up into three different levels. Once you complete all three levels you get access to exclusive classes for graduates level one is called back to the basics. It’s basically where I will put the students in front of the camera and just see what they can do. What are they comfortable with from there? I will guide them through the shoot and they will get handwritten critiques back at the end of class as well as five edited images level two is called connecting the dots. We will be talking about networking castings show day anything that involves modeling and then the final class is called working in the field. This is the most important class where you can show me what you have learned, and with everything that you learned, you can utilize and portray it in the images the students will have a commercial-styled photo shoot, as well as an editorial-styled photo shoot I will be offering the class separately but if you purchase it as a package all three classes at a time it’s 299.

Any big plans?
I really hope that these classes that I am starting are going to be a positive influence in the Houston modeling community. I believe that I do have some information to offer to others that could be beneficial. I really hope that I could maybe in the future, bring these classes to other parts of Texas, such as Austin, but in the meantime, I’m just really excited to get the class is running.
