Hi Kalisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Kalisha Harris. I am a handmade artisan jewelry designer.
I started making jewelry in 2002 as a way to make money. My cousin’s aunt worked for a company named Barse off of Mockingbird and 183 here in Dallas. She taught me how to make earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and how to wire wrap. One day I decided to make a necklace from some of the beads and materials that was left and thought about becoming a jewelry designer. Quickly my thoughts changed to making jewelry, building a brand, and making a name for myself in this lucrative business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been smooth the entire time. I think the struggle for me has been not joining some social media platforms early on when I started my business to get extra exposure. You have to learn how each social media outlet works and make it work in your favor.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make handmade jewelry using semi-precious gemstones, focal beads, pave beads, leather, and wire. I specialize in wire wrapping. I make wire-wrapped earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. I am most proud of the cluster necklaces I make. Being able to manipulate wire to design jewelry is what sets me apart from other artisans.

Do your research on the materials you may want to use and pricing. Learn the names of the gemstones and other information about them. Know how to price your jewelry.
I can’t think of anything I wish I would have known starting out, but I am still learning new techniques that helps my business grow yearly.
