Kara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Vacation Your Way began offering vacation home rentals in the spring of 2020, meeting a growing need for safe, private escapes during the COVID-19 pandemic. As people looked for healthy ways to travel, private vacation homes became the perfect solution—and we were there to help.
Since then, we’ve continued to hand-pick beautiful, unique properties and host fun events to create unforgettable experiences for our guests.
We’ve expanded to Hico, TX, where guests can enjoy a cozy tiny home and glamping experience on a charming working farm, and to Eastland, TX, for lakeside tiny home glamping with stunning views.
Our newest addition is truly one-of-a-kind: a luxurious 6-bedroom Treehouse Villa in Garland, TX. This unique retreat includes a romantic treehouse bedroom (#6) perched among the trees, offering serene views of the creek and the wildlife that calls it home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Vacation Your Way learned the importance of trust accounting to protect our own revenue and assets and our owner/investors’ revenue and assets. It is very important to have a powerful PMS (reservation system) with trust accounting that is powerful and can grow with your business. We found TRACK and feel it has helped us expand and offer amazing benefits such as high occupancy and excellent pricing strategies.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I retired from teaching music in the spring of 2023, ready for a new adventure. My days of helping young people find their voices through singing, acting, and dance evolved into leading incredible teams of cleaning and maintenance professionals. While it was a big shift, I quickly learned that their voices were just as important—each team member contributes creative ideas that help shape beautiful, well-cared-for vacation homes our guests love.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to excellence through data, feedback, and collaboration. I dive deep into performance reports and guest reviews, using that insight to work hand-in-hand with our revenue management AI to drive exceptional results—consistently outperforming the market in both occupancy and RevPAR month after month.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The characteristics most essential to my success are hard work, focus, and unrelenting tenacity. I’m an entrepreneur who values mentorship and feedback, knowing they’re key to growth and innovation. With that support and reflection, I bring our teams together for open brainstorming—where there are no wrong answers and every idea is welcome. Together, we find creative, practical solutions both inside and outside the box. And when something works, we document it—turning successful practices into repeatable protocols.
