Check Out Karissa Green’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karissa Green.

Hi Karissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
So in high school, I was always into clothes, make-up, hair, all things girly! I did my friend’s hair and makeup before we would go anywhere and I loved getting dressed up. After playing competitive volleyball for about seven years, I decided that was the only thing that I wanted to go to college for, but then what? Playing volleyball would end and then I’d have a degree that I wasn’t sure I wanted. So, I opted for cosmetology school and that shocked even my parents, lol.

Fast forward to about six year into my career, I met Tara, my hair bestie and mentor. She taught me all things extensions (I had learned several things before but nothing ever stuck) and I became obsessed. While behind the chair, my clients always commented on my style and told be I should start blogging. That was so out of my train of thought but I played around with it after enough people encouraged me. I am still a behind the chair stylist who specializes in lived-in color and hand-tied extensions, but now I also have my “influencer” (I hate that word lol) page that has grown to over 10k followers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Every career has it’s setbacks. In hair, I struggled to find my passion until I found my love for extensions and even with that it was hard finding what was perfect for me and my clients. In blogging I got stuck at 6000 followers for what felt like FOREVER! It took me realizing that authenticity was all it took to get me over that hump and start growing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been behind the chair as a stylist since 2009. It took me years to find my “happy place” in the hair world and I have really found my niche in Hand Tied Extensions and lived in color. I am an educator for Hand Tied Halo Extensions alongside my mentor and now best friend, Tara. I think what sets me apart is that I’m not afraid to say no, I am upfront and honest with my clients about what it best for their hair, even if it’s not being in my chair or paying me to do their extensions. Being in the blogging world, transparency and authenticity is something I’ve learned will set you apart and people appreciate not getting “sold.”

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Oh gosh, I was a mess, LOL. I was a ball of energy and the perfect mix of tomboy and girly. My parents split when I was two and my dad raised me to be the “boy” he never got, taking me hunting, fishing, working on the ranch. While my mom taught me all things girly and fun, but she was also a VP of her company and she taught me to be assertive, a strong woman, and truly a boss babe! I played volleyball from 7th grade thorough my senior year of HS so I was still very girly and fashion but also an athlete. I was definitely more “one of the boys” and didn’t have a lot of close girlfriends until later in life.
